Ontario Building Code - Proposed Changes

Important reminder! Ontario is proposing to harmonize the Ontario Building Code (OBC) with the National Building Code 2015 (NBC) for guard rails.

This change, already accepted in other Canadian provinces, will allow horizontal elements like cable rail in guard design.

Remember to voice your support! Anyone can voice support for harmonization and reduce government regulation. Go to geobezdan.com/NBC to review the proposed changes and register your support.

Cheers,

The Stairhaus Team

HAPPY NEW YEAR!

Just like that, 2020 is coming to an end and the New Year is almost here!

While 2020 has certainly had it's challanges & difficulties it has also been filled with some amazing projects & opportunities - we've been a part of some incredible builds and renovations, started a brand new business and moved in to our new building. We are defintiely grateful to be where we are, and look forward to all that this New Year will bring.

Our office and shop will be CLOSED on New Year's Eve & New Year's Day and we will resume our regular business hours on Monday January 4th. Thank you again to all have supported us throughout this year, we can't wait to see what 2021 has in store for us!

Stairhaus Bought a HAUS!

We are beyond stoked to let you all in on a little secret we have been keeping for quite some time. We basically ran out of space in our 2nd year of business and have been coping with it since. We have been on the hunt for a facility that would compliment what we do and found one that is absolutely perfect. Our shop and office space will be 3x larger than what we currently have. This will be huge for us on all fronts

Stay tuned for more details…………………………………..here is a teaser.

Galleries Updated!

It has been a few weeks since I last updated our galleries.  Some really cool projects were added, take a gander!

Curved Railing - How We Do It!

Here is a time lapse video of a level curve railing glue-up.  We ripped the white oak into thin strips then glued all the strips together.  After the strips are coated in glue it is lifted up onto the blocks.  The blocks are screwed to the template/radius of the curve we require.  Once the rail is clamped we will leave it for 24hrs to dry.

Check out the "Summer 2015" Our Homes Magazine

We were featured in the "Summer 2015" Our Homes magazine and have our very first advertisement in it.  We have free copies here at our shop for anyone who wants a copy of this great publication.

Our Homes is a great tool for anyone who is either building a new home or planning a renovation. They showcase local trades and provide amazing pictures of completed local projects. The best part is this magazine is FREE! Special thanks to Design Cabin for our branding and graphic design!

Thanks Our Homes!

Really Cool Stairs #6 - The "Fun" Edition

This #blog entry is dedicated to stairs that are quirky and fun.  Generally designed around what kids think are cool, a few of these stairs definitely make going "down" really fun.  I think the slides will start anyone's day off on the right foot!

Really Cool Stairs #5 - Circular Stair Edition

Most people walk up and down their carpet grade circular in their home every day and not think much about it.  Did you know it takes nearly 3-4x longer to build a circular over a standard straight set of stairs?  We love building circulars however they seem to be less and less popular as the typical 2 storey homes are being replaced with larger bungalows.

A circular stair takes up more room however definitely makes a statement when you first walk into a house.  Here at Stairhaus, we are fully capable of designing and building virtually any circular you throw at us.  Whether its curved nosing & railing or the  traditional "Scarlett O'Hara" sweeping double circulars, let us make this happen for you!
