Starting a renovation or a new build project can be very overwhelming!
There are hundreds of decisions to make and many different factors to consider. It is crucial to plan ahead whenever you are working on this type of project to ensure that there is plenty of time to meet your deadlines.

Important reminder! Ontario is proposing to harmonize the Ontario Building Code (OBC) with the National Building Code 2015 (NBC) for guard rails.
This change, already accepted in other Canadian provinces, will allow horizontal elements like cable rail in guard design.

Ontario is proposing to allow Horizontal Guard Design!
We get tons of requests for horizontal guard designs and customers are often quite disapointed to find that these systems don't currently meet Ontario Building Code (OBC). Great news though, Ontario is proposing to harmonize the Ontario Building Code (OBC) with the National Building Code 2015 (NBC) for guard rails. Public review for this change ends December 4, 2021!
This change, which has already been accepted in other provinces, will allow for horizontal elements like cable rail in guard design.

Scroll to page 114 to find Part 3, code sentence 3.3.1.17.(5) and 3.4.6.6.(8) pertaining to guards. Scroll to page 319 to find part 9, code sentence 9.8.8.6.(1)pertaining to guards.

In-stair lighting is a fantastic way to improve the functionality and overall design impact of your stairs. Stairs can be custom fabricated to allow for LED lighting to be inserted behind the treads, along the wall, or into the railing system. These features require custom measurements and design, so it is always important to consider this early on in the design process!

Do your stairs need a refresh but they are still in great shape?
Tread caps are a cost effective and appealing way to refresh tired, outdated stairs. Tread caps are installed over the existing treads ensuring that the staircase layout and design are not changed. Capping is an excellent solution to update stairs where the frame and stability of the current staircase is not an issue.
New railings, in addition to tread caps, can also completely transform a space. When combined, various materials such as wood, steel, and glass create eye-catching railing systems to be incorporated into any design.
