GOBBLE GOBBLE
It will be a short day for the Stairhaus boys as we have been working really hard the last couple weeks. We are slammed with orders and made huge progress this week.
We wanted to take a minute to wish you all a safe and enjoyable Thanksgiving long weekend. The roads will be busy, make sure to plan ahead and drive carefully. Thanks to all of our loyal customers for your support and constant stream of orders. There will be a few AMAZING jobs posted that we have been working on. We are really proud with how they have turned out, can't wait to share them with you.
Stairhaus will be closed on the holiday Monday, reopening on Tuesday.
Cheers
Thanks to the Barrie Construction Association (BCA) and Dooley Lucenti Barristers & Solicitors for providing a very informative seminar with respect to "Business with Breakfast - Construction Liens".
It is important that everyone who is self employed understands their rights with respect to liens and how the legal system works. I understood the concept prior to the seminar, however both Scott Fairley and Eric Gionet made it very simple to understand.
Thanks!
Our new sanding beast has arrived (drum sander = 4000 lbs). It has dual heads with a finishing brush. It took a while to find the right machine for us - it's like Christmas here at the Haus!
This machine will help manufacturing timelines and our overall quality will be even better. Electrical hook-up today, dust collection hook-up tomorrow - we can't wait to fire this monster up!
Local artist/blacksmith Kyle Thornley recently put together a line of hand forged steel table legs. Every leg is hand made and can be integrated with one of our reclaimed table tops. We are really excited about the options now available, please take a look and let us know what you think!
Kyle is a really skilled guy and can create pretty much anything out of metal. Take a minute out of your day and check out his website - METAL MIND FORGE. If you have a custom steel leg/brace in mind, please send your idea over and we can work on some custom pricing for you!
A little bit of advertising in the Barrie, Orillia, Midland & Innisfil OUR HOMES Fall Edition. Keep your eyes out for the Winter - Southern Georgian Bay edition for a full page write up on what we have been up to!
Our Homes has several different regions that they cover and do one amazing job. The project features show off some amazing work as well as provide inspiration for people planning to do a reno or build a new home.
It is WAY too early to be posting things about Christmas however it is important to get your orders in ASAP. The "Christmas Rush" has already started for contracting companies like ourselves. The builders are busy trying to get you into your new home before Christmas. Below you will find our current wait times for Stairhaus products:
2-3 weeks - Carpet Grade Stairs
3-4 weeks - Standard Stain Grade Stairs/Railing Installs
4-5 weeks - High-End Custom Stairs/Harvest Tables/Glass Railings
We appreciate your patience during this crazy time of the year. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact us via email (matt@stairhaus.com) or give us a call 705 733 9292

Helical stairs have to be one of our favorites. They are the definition of ultra-modern and look amazing. Although very expensive, these stairs will be the focal point of any home.
What is the difference between a circular vs helical stair?
"As the word “helix” implies, helical staircases are designed in a helical shape. Helical staircases differ from spiral staircases as they do not have a newel, and handrails are present on both sides. They are also not limited to a circular staircase, and may be built in an elliptical or oval shape. Without a newel for support, better materials and/or construction is required for helical stairs compared to spiral stairs.
Because of its shape, it is possible to build two helical staircases while occupying the same vertical space, allowing two persons access to a staircase at the same time. Fire escapes are a good example displaying the use of a double helix stair." * The Staircase Experts, UK

Hope you all have an amazing and well deserved long weekend! The Haus will be closed on Monday due to Labour Day and will reopen on Tuesday (regular hours).
Cheers from the Stairhaus Crew!
We chopped up a few of our beams this morning in hopes of blowing out this inventory! I have included a size list below, take a look and let us know if one of these is for your house! We typically sell out of these really quickly as they are half the price of what most suppliers retail them for. Most of the mantel beams will range from $200 - $300.
Mantel dimensions:
1) 10"x10"x59"
2) 9"x9"x57"
3) 8"x6"x92"
4) 6"x6"x60"
5) 6"x7"x56"
6) 7"x7"x40"
7) 7"x6"x54"
8) 10"x10"x48"
9) 10"x10"x72"
10) 10"x11"x72"
You need a huge front entrance way for one of these stair systems! These are not as common anymore as people are trying to maximize the use/space of their front entrance ways. The classic Scarlett O'Hara staircase has 2 sweeping circulars sharing a common landing. Take a look at these pieces of art!

The true beauty of reclaimed wood is that there is basically endless uses for the materials as long as you have a creative mind. Google is the best for inspiring some great ideas. Simply searching "barn beam furniture" yields some amazing concepts/ideas that you can modify to suit your needs. Check out a few cool tables/beam creations that I found that would look amazing in your home.
Our initial barn door post was viewed 8000+ times so I figured I would focus in quickly and show you how many options are out there for the tracks themselves. The barn door track has been around 100+ years and has recently exploded in popularity. There are many different styles, colours and sizes now readily available, many offered strictly online only.
Take a look at a few cool track styles I found online. Simply searching "barn door track hardware" will yield a few hundred different examples of tracks that are out there and available for purchase.

Short and sweet! Here are a few pics of some cool stairs I found on the web that are made from reclaimed materials. We have quite a few requests now for stairs/railings to be made out of parts of a barn, as this is one of the reasons why we got into the reclaimed wood industry.
Take a look!
We are constantly trying to take decent pictures of every project we complete so you can see what we are up to! I try to update our gallery once every week with some fresh material for you to see! We have quite a few followers now and we can't thank you enough for showing interest in what we love to do.
Have a great weekend!
Glass is in! All we have to do is cap the top with a contemporary maple railing and we are finished. Love how this job turned out.
1-3/4 x 2-3/4" Wormy Maple standard railing, 3-1/2 Chamfered Contemporary Post, 1-5/16 Chamfered Wormy Maple spindles. Job Location: Toronto, Ontario
Open Part 1 Side Oak Stairs. We had to build half of this stair on-site and notch it around the steel jack post which will be cladded on a later date. Job Location: Snow Valley, Ontario
In my opinion, nothing looks better than a barn beam mantel over your fire place. The hand hewn beams have lots of character and give off a warm feel.
Hand Hewn: "hewing" is the process of converting a log from its rounded natural form into lumber (timber) with more or less flat surfaces using primarily an axe. Cleaning up a beam is simple! All you need is a wire brush and an orbital sander. You can either stain the beam or add a protective clear coat.
Mounting a heavy barn beam mantel can be a challenge so make sure you have a clear game plan before deciding to nail one of these to one of your walls. The most common way to install a beam is to hollow out the back and screw it to a mounting bar/plate that is already secured into your stud wall. See below:
Step #1 - Install your mounting plate to the wall.
Step #2 - Hollow out the back of your beam. Apply PL Premium (our favorite) to the mounting plate and inside the beam.
Step #3 - Screw the mantel at the back to the mounting plate that is on the wall. Both the screws and adhesive will make sure that this beam isn't going anywhere.
Click below on a few examples of some really nice barn beam mantels. Here at Stairhaus, we stock beams anywhere from 6x6 all the way up to 12x12. The most popular mantel size seems to be anywhere around 7x7 to 9x9. We can cut them to any length and you can pick out what beam you want to mount on your wall!
Take a look at the gallery below and be prepared to want one of these over your fireplace! It's time to replace that cheap mdf builders grade mantel!
For the record, we do not build concrete stairs! In my opinion however, if you want to accomplish an ultra contemporary look, concrete is a must. They may look cold and dull however their sharp lines and grey-scale appearance give them a very desirable look to any edgy architect. Take a gander through a few pictures I found, I honestly think concrete may be the way I go when I build my next house!
The feature wall seems to be the "in" thing to do these days. If you have been in our showroom, there is no way you can miss the 2 big display walls we installed in 1" grey board. The character you get in the barn board is from decades of wind, rain, snow and sunshine. Generally the grey board has one side grey (outside of the barn) and the inside is brown, giving you 2 options for colour when installing on the wall.
The best way to install the barn board is by strapping out your existing wall with 1x2. After the wall is strapped, we suggest you get a roll of black tar paper (roofing paper) and staple it to the 1x2. This is a cheaper and faster way to "black out" the walls as painting it will take up a of time and money. The black background on the walls will allow none of the defects to show up. If the wall was white you would see through the cracks and nail holes, highlighting the defects.
We offer our barn board 2 ways, raw or dressed. You can save a little money and dress it yourself (ripping both edges of the boards so they are square) or we will dress/prep it for you.
